Stephens Makes Bold Stellies Claim

One of Stellenbosch’s unsung heroes this season, goalkeeper Sage Stephens, agrees that he’s had one of the best views in domestic football, watching the club’s lethal front four in action.

Stellenbosch are set to host DStv champions Mamelodi Sundowns this Sunday with a place in the Nedbank Cup final on the line.

Three of Stellenbosch’s players — Devin Titus, Anicet Oura and Andre De Jong — are tied with the top scorers in this competition so far, with three goals each, while Iqraam Rayners is running away on the assists leaderboard with five.

This website asked Stephens about the front four’s exploits, and what it was like watching their action from the goalkeeper’s position.

“100% I do have the best view,” Stephens replied to iDiski Times

“I think we’ve got the most lethal top four up there with Ikkie, Oura, Andre and Devon. So for me, it’s a phenomenal view.

“I mean, the guys just they’re playing with so much confidence, so much belief in one another, the trust that they show. And to answer your question about the 25 games,

“Coach said it to us the other day, if you started the season and said we would have done what we’ve done now, no one would have believed it.

“So I just think it’s truly phenomenal and special what we’ve achieved. I can’t put something on it, I just can say we work hard, we just remain humble, And we respect our job. Ultimately, that’s all I can say towards that.
