Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter has praised Jose Riveiro and insisted he should be named Coach of the Season in Sunday’s PSL awards.
Truter saw his side miss out on their first ever Nedbank Cup trophy after losing 2-1 to Orlando Pirates at a packed Loftus Versfeld on Saturday evening.
Riveiro, meanwhile steered Pirates to a domestic double after lifting both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup trophies, resulting in Truter praising the Spanish tactician.
“Well done to Pirates,” he told SuperSport TV after the match.
“Second cup for the coach, nominee for Coach of the Season, so hopefully he’ll get it this year.
“Well done and congratulations to Pirates.”
NB: The category is named “DStv Premiership Coach of the Season”, meaning achievements in the league only have gone into consideration of the judges – unlike with the PSL Footballer of the Year, which includes performances and achievements from the league, MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup.
Truter also praised his own side for their resilient display, saying the result could’ve gone the other way, had they not committed two crucial mistakes.
“There are so many things we can take from this season,” he added.
“We have to get it right and sit down and plan for next season. This was us, people don’t see it, but definitely we will be again up and about next season as well.
“Big performances, good structure. But have to sit down, see what’s available and get the balance right in the squad as well.
“Today, two mistakes and we got punished. It could’ve gone either way, but congratulations to Pirates.”
