Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi has hailed Bongani Zungu, saying he is getting better in his matured age.
Zungu, 31, who is in his second stint with Sundowns was instrumental in their progression to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup against Maritzburg United, setting up Thembinkosi Lorch’s first goal at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
Despite the game starting slow after a stoppage due to lightning, Zungu produced a pass that had people talking and praising his quality.
Vilakazi says the 31-year-old may be getting older but his game is getting better as he always knows what to do when he has the ball something most coaches don’t a plan to stop.
“They usually say in English that you mature like fine wine,” Vilakazi said on iDiski TV.
“He is getting older but his football seems to be taking him back to his youth because he does basics very well.
“He is always in a good position at the right time at the right place. His passes always make a difference in attack.
“I mean look at his assist to Lorch just between those pockets where the two Dladla coaches thought they would close.
“It’s like blocking with your arms because eventually you are going to get tired and open your arms and get hit in the face. And that’s what happened and it was good goal for Lorch.”
