The Tanzanian NBC Premier League will go down to the wire on the last day of the season after Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kagera Sugar this past weekend.
The Reds of Msimbazi stayed in touch with rivals Young Africans at the top with the two sides separated by just a single point ahead of the much-anticipated Kariakoo Derby on Wednesday afternoon.
Stephen Mukwala’s 17th-minute goal was enough to see Simba pick up a fifth straight win, while Yanga did not disappoint as they made light work of Dodoma Jiji with a 5-0 thumping in their match.
Simba will have to win at all costs if they are to wrestle the crown away from Yanga in the title decider, while the defending champions just need to avoid defeat to clinch their fourth straight championship and 25th overall.
Yanga currently lead the log with 79 points after winning 26 of their 29 games, while Simba are just one behind with 25 wins, three draws and just one defeat.
The log leaders are unbeaten in their last 19 league games, winning 18, while Davids’ side have gone unbeaten in 23 games, picking up 21 wins.
The defending champions are also in for a league and cup double with the Federation Cup final against Singida Black Stars on Sunday, June 29.
