Kenya national team head coach Benni McCarthy was left impressed with his charges after picking up his first win in charge.
The Harambee Stars narrowly beat Chad 2-1 in a friendly international on Tuesday after the two sides played to a goalless stalemate in the first encounter.
The Bafana Bafana record top goalscorer praised the cohesiveness of the group and how well they heeded to his instructions that saw them edge out Chad.
“Very happy for the boys, I think they’ve had a really good week in camp,” an elated McCarthy said, as per L4B on YouTube.
“We had a good time, got to know each other very well. The training sessions. I think the boys here this week as we got closer, the first game we played really well. Exceptionally well, we deserved to win.
“You know and you don’t win, and you could see the expression on the face of the players when you’ve played the way that we did and you don’t win the game.
“So, today, I just said to them just now, ‘We just have to kick on a little bit’. When you play the way that we did and you create the chances and you take them, then you’ll see how easy it becomes.
“And I think today yeah the boys who came in, they did well they took their moments. They created so much more and it was just nice to see that you were able to start to see the way you want your team to play. The way you want players to move and understand each other.
“So, a lot of those positives came out in today’s game. And I’m delighted for the team that they get a win that we deserve.
“And hopefully we can build from this training camp that we had.”
