Pitso Mosimane picked up his first win since taking over at relegation-threatened Saudi Arabian club Abha FC, in a major boost to their hopes for survival.
It was the third official game in charge for Mosimane since he took over earlier this year, and a first win after Abha dropped points in both their previous games.
But Friday’s match was basically a must-win fixture after Abha had dropped into 18th spot and were 16th-placed Al-Tai.
Mosimane’s side stepped up to the pressure and beat Al-Tai 2-0 thanks to two goals by former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak. Abha scored the opener after 38 minutes and added a second just after half-time.
The win saw them move to 18 points on the log, level with Thursday’s opponents and just two away from the non-relegation spot.
Thursday’s result saw Abha end their 10-game run without victory during which they only picked uo two draws and eight defeats.
