Links Credits Chiefs Coach For Major Career Boost

Aarhus GF defender Gift Links has praised Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson for the role he played in his early career.

Links, 25, came through the youth structures of Platinum Stars where Johnson was the head coach at the time. The former Cape Town City was promoted to the senior side in 2016 under the leadership of Johnson.

Links has spent five seasons with the Danish side AGF after completing the move from City. Since then he has made over 145 appearances and scored nine goals in the competition, where he is playing as a wingback now.

Links praised Johnson, mentioning that he took a chance when no one believed him because of his small body.

“I will start with Cavin Johnson. Because I remember at one point, when I was in the academy, not too many people believed that I would become a professional player because of my body, because I’m a tiny, small guy, but Cavin Johnson, took the chance. You know, he promoted me to the MDC, now called DDC, and then he took me to the first team, and he gave me my debut,” Links told iDiskiTimes.

“When it comes to Coach Cavin, he was brave enough to play youngsters, you know, like [Kobamelo] Kodisang, Sibusiso [Mabiliso], [Katlego] Otladisa, Boiki Modisakeng, I can name more, but then he took a chance, and then he gave us our debuts. And yeah, it’s been good since.”
