Makhanya Reveals Why He’ll Call Blom

Olwethu Makhanya has revealed he wants to call Njabulo Blom before his move to the Major League Soccer to ask for some advice.

Makhanya, 19, signed a three-year deal with MLS side Philadelphia Union last week becoming the fourth South African player to join the league following Blom (St. Louis City), Bongokuhle Hlongwane (Minnesota United) and Tsiki Ntsabeleng (FC Dallas).

The former Stellenbosch FC defender exclusively spoke to iDiski Times Writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 114 of the newspaper, where he revealed that he has kept up with his peers performances in the US.

Makhanya says he knows that there will be some expectation on him in the league, seeing how high his countrymen are setting the bar, adding that he plans to get in touch with Blom to ask him about what to really expect in America.

“No I haven’t spoken to them as yet but because Blom and I are like the same age I plan to video call him so I can talk to him before I leave so he can let me in on what to expect and things like that,” Makhanya told iDiski Times.

“I am certain that there will be a lot expected from me and seeing how Blom and Hlongwane have been doing gives me confidence. I’m joining them feeling confident and willing to not waste any opportunity given to me.”

You can read Makhanya’s full interview with Kganyago, where he also reveals the truth about offers from Mamelodi Sundowns and talks with Kaizer Chiefs, in edition 114 of the newspaper available on the website.
