South African defender Aden McCarthy featured for 90 minutes and helped Sabah FC pick up a point away from home in their 0-0 draw against table-toppers Neftçi at Bakcell Arena on Friday evening.
The former Kaizer Chiefs man put in another great shift in the heart of defence to help his side to their sixth successive unbeaten run in the Azerbaijan Premier League.
There was however a consequence as Sabah missed out on toppling Neftçi at the summit with both sides now tied on 16 points after seven matches.
Sabah can still take over top spot should they win their league game in hand with Neftçi having played seven matches to the former’s one.
Valdas Dambrauskas will now be hoping to get his side back to winning ways when they take on Slavia Praha in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, 13 October.
Sabah find themselves in 34th spot after going down 4-0 to Manchester United on the road in their opening champions league fixture.
