Mokwena Gives Update On Wydad Transfers & Pre-season

Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena has given an update on his side’s pre-season camp ahead of the 2024/25 Botola Pro League season.

Mokwena’s new side signed seven new players so far, while also bringing in several new technical team members. They have been in camp for two weeks so far, preparing for the new campaign and have already won one of their friendly matches against Azam last week.

Mokwena has been entrusted with awakening the sleeping giant who finished the last season in fifth position.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach told the club’s media department that preparations are going well and expressed his gratitude to everyone working behind the scenes to ensure that Wydad are competitive next term.

“We are in the second week of our five week programme and we are quietly going about our business trying to put together a very competitive squad,” said Mokwena.

“And I’ve got to give a lot of compliments to the work that’s being done behind the scenes by everybody that’s involved in the recruitment and the bringing of the players.

“From the technical team which involves coach Themba, coach Allan Freese, our analyst Sbu Makitla they are doing incredible work.

“And of course, I have to also give huge credit to the board, the President of the club and senior management for the acquisition of some of the players and this makes us come into the second week in a better shape than we were at the beginning.

“But, of course, we still got a hell of a lot of work to do and we have to push ourselves to try to get into a good condition and we’ve got certain objectives for every week and moving into what will be a very competitive period where we play a lot of friendly games and try to get the condition and the game personality and methodology going.

“And that’s not easy because we have to try to change the personality of the team and try to induct even the new players into what we believe will be a way of playing that will bring us a lot of success and of course, make the supporters very happy.

“We just have to continue to focus on that and slowly but surely, move into the next coming weeks and get ourselves in a good shape.”
