Pitso Gives Future Update After Relegation

Pitso Mosimane has admitted that he took a risk by taking up the coaching job at Abha Club, and stated that his contract came to an end with Monday’s defeat.

Mosimane was appointed as the Abha Club head coach in January 2024 along with his technical team, which consists of Maahier Davids, Kabelo Rangoaga, Musi Matlaba, Kyle Solomon and goalkeeper coach Hamad Alyami.

This was after he left Al-Wahda in November of 2023. When he arrived, Abha had 14 points after 20 games, and flirting with the relegation zone.

Mosimane’s arrival at Abha brought a bit of hope as he managed to get out of relegation three times and collected 18 points before the final day of the season.

Going into the last game of the season, Mosimane needed three points to save the club from relegation. After taking the lead to already relegated Al-Hazem, they conceded two goals and lost the game 2-1.

Speaking to the media in Saudi Arabia, Mosimane admitted it was a risk-taking job. He also mentioned that his contract with Abha is now over.

“It was difficult times for us and we played the match under pressure, and I am sad about the situation we are in, but this is football, we must accept everything, and even though we scored first, we were not able to win, and we got a penalty kick and missed it,” Mosimane told the media.

“I took a risk and came to a team at the bottom of the league, and I know that it is a difficult task, but I had hope when we get out of the danger zone three times, and my contract with Abha expires today.”

‘Jingles’ will not be short of potential suitors, and will look to weigh up his options on where he will be coaching next.
