Abha Club head coach Pitso Mosimane remained defiant in their hopes to retain their Saudi Pro League status after their 5-1 thrashing by his former club Al Ahli Jeddah.
Abha moved back into the relegation zone with two games remaining to secure survival in the league with two points separating themselves in 17th place and 15th placed Al Tai.
The likes of Riyad Mahrez and Franck Kessie scored for the club he promoted to the Pro League last season that’s been boosted by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) this season, which saw an influx of global superstars arrive in the countries biggest clubs.
But Mosiamne says they not running the same race as the Jeddah giants, and feels the chance of defying the odds remains alive.
“The important thing is to stay in the league,” Mosimane said in the post-match press conference.
“We still have a chance to do that. We faced a strong team and we cannot compare ourselves with the Al-Ahli squad.”
Abha face Al Khaleej and Al Hazm in their final two games of the 2023/24 season.
