Former Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has compared Percy Tau’s Al Ahly to Real Madrid after they lifted another trophy on Friday.
Mourinho, who was recently sacked by AS Roma, was a special dignitary at the Egyptian Cup final between Al Ahly and Zamalek which was played in Saudi Arabia, walking out with the trophy before working as analyst during the match.
Al Ahly beat their bitter rivals 2-0, with Tau securing his eighth trophy since joining the Egyptian giants.
Mourinho believes the Club of the Century can be compared to European giants Real Madrid because od their trophy pedigree.
“Al Ahly are maybe the Real Madrid of Africa. The amount of titles they won is incredible,” he said as per Kingfut.
“Even the amount of times they participated in the Club World Cup and competed with international teams.
Mourinho also revealed his admiration for former Al Ahly playmaker, Mohamed Aboutrika, who many call the best African player to have never played in Europe.
“If I am not wrong, a player that I was always in love with was playing for Al Ahly was Aboutrika. I loved him,” he added.
Al Ahly already return to domestic football when they will face National Bank of Egypt in the league, where they currently only sit in 10th place with 17 points from seven games – having eight games in hand over current leaders ENNPI.
