Siyabonga Ngezana’s FCSB celebrated a last-minute win on Thursday to qualify for the UEFA Europa League ‘league phase’.
The Romanian champions have been struggling in the league and dropped to 15th place but they have continued their European journey.
They had gone through three qualifying rounds in the UEFA Champions League but dropped out at the third hurdle, losing 4-3 on aggregate to Sparta Praha.
They then dropped down to the UEFA Europa League playoffs and faced Austrian side LASK, collecting a 1-1 draw in the first leg away from home.
The second leg looked destined for extra-time, with the tie tied at 1-1 (no away goals count in Europe), but a 93rd minute winner by Darius Olaru sent Ngezana’s side into the Europa League.
Ngezana himself played the whole 90 minutes, which was already his seventh game in European competition this season.
FCSB now enter the league phase draw and will find out their seven opponents during Thursday’s draw.
