Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli Saudi beat Al-Sahel SC on Monday evening to all but secure their promotion to the Saudi Pro League.
The game started slow but Mosimane’s men ran out 3-1 winners against Al-Sahel SC and can only mathematically still be prevented from promotion.
Haitham Mohammed Asiri gave his side a lead in the 43rd minute, while Hisham Al Dubais equalised in the 60th minute.
But, as so often, Al Ahli scored late goals to take home the three points, with Ryad Boudebouz converting a penalty after 72 minutes and Hicham Faik adding the third after 79 minutes.
Al Ahli now sit on 62 points at the top of the log, three ahead of second-placed Al Akhdood, who have played one game less
Mosimane’s side are also 18 points ahead of Al-Faisaly, who have two games in hand, in the non-promotion spot – needing just one more win to secure the club’s return to the first tier.
Al Ahli’s promotion could be confirmed on Wednesday, should Al-Faisaly, who are coached by former Kaizer Chiefs Giovanni Solinas, not win their game against Ohod Club.
Overall, Mosimane has picked up 15 wins, seven draws and just two defeats since taking charge of Al Ahli.
