Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has described his former coach Pitso Mosimane as a serial-winner and labelled him as “brilliant, but crazy”.
Kekana was speaking about Mosimane in the latest edition of the iDiski Times newspaper.
They won 11 trophies together during their time at Sundowns, including five DStv Premiership titles, the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup.
After leaving Sundowns, Mosimane went to Al Ahly in Egypt where he won two more CAF Champions League trophies. He is now in Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli, and pushing them towards promotion to the Saudi Premier League – Kekana says he is not surprised to see his former coach succeed wherever he goes.
“It’s so funny because he’s got a big obsession with the game,” Kekana told iDiski Times.
“So working with somebody like that urges you to be on top of your game every time.
“So he knows the information that nobody in the team knows, he digs deep. So as a player, or as players, we find comfort, when we prepare well. So you can’t panic when you are prepared so well.
“So with him, because he’s got such a big obsession with the game, he would make sure that each and every player possible, he knows, and even the information that he’s gonna feed to the group, he gives them that the information that is there, that has been there, that has gonna be there.”
Kekana said Mosimane is obsessed with the game, and all his successes comes down to the application he puts in.
“Because with him, I’ve had the privilege to work with him,” Kekana added
“And that’s why I’m saying it’s so crazy when I say all the achievements, he has put in the work for all the achievements that he has achieved. I think there’s a difference between him and the rest of us.
“So yeh, that’s the man! Brilliant, but crazy!”
