Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli Saudi side have re-climbed to the top of First Division table after beating Al-Jabalain on Tuesday evening.
Mosimane’s side were out of action since 12 March when they had lost 2-0 to third-placed Al Riyadh before the international break.
It was only Mosimane’s second defeat in 20 games since moving to Saudi Arabia, but saw them lose the lead of the log after Al Hazem had overtaken them a day later.
However, this time the roles were reversed with Al Hazem only picking up a goalless draw with Al Riyadh on Monday and Al Ahli winning their fixture to reclaim the lead a day later.
Mosimane’s side looked like they gave away two points despite opening the score after seven minutes already, when Hassan Al-Ali netted the 1-0 and they conceded the equaliser when Anderson Plata scored on the 77th minute.
But when many thought the game would end in a draw, Al Ahli got a late penalty, which Boudebouz slotted home in the seventh minute of injury time.
The victory saw Al Ahli climb to 55 points on the log, one above Al Hazem and 13 points ahead of the first non-promotion spot on the log, which is currently held by Al Arabi with eight games left to be played.
Overall, Mosimane has picked up 13 wins, six draws and just two defeats since taking charge of Al Ahli.
