Ried Makes Decision On Future Of Sundowns Target

Austrian club SV Ried have made a decision regarding the future of Mamelodi Sundowns target Antonio van Wyk.

Van Wyk joined Ried in 2024 from Betway Premiership side Stellenbosch FC and has since become an important figure for the club with the attacker having contributed three goals and four assists in 23 appearances this season.

As previously reported, Sundowns held talks with Ried for a possible transfer of Van Wyk.

Ried rejected the proposal and instead suggested a swap deal involving Siyabonga Mabena plus cash from Sundowns, an offer the Tshwane giants also declined.

The Austrian club have now moved to secure Van Wyk’s future by exercising the option to extend his contract by a further year, keeping him at the club until 2027.

“Our number 29 will remain in the Innviertel region for the 2026/27 season,” the club announced via a statement.

“SV Oberbank Ried has exercised its option to extend the 23-year-old’s contract until the end of the 2027 season.”

Wolfgang Fiala, Sporting Director at SV Oberbank Ried said Van Wyk has made an impressive improvement in European football and confirmed more interest in him in the past transfer window.

“Over the past 18 months, and especially during our time in the Bundesliga, Antonio has developed into an absolute game-changer,” said Fiala.

“He has adapted well to European football and demonstrates his qualities on the pitch week after week. As a result, there was already a lot of interest in him during the winter transfer window.

“For us, this move was therefore a logical step and we are looking forward to the coming weeks with Antonio.”
