Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger beat Sead Ramovic’s CR Belouizdad and widened the gap at the top of the Algieran Ligue 1 to four points with three games in hand.
It was game of high magnitude between MC Alger and CR Belouizdad, with a lot at stake considering the history between the two coaches Mokwena and Ramovic, rivals from their time in the PSL.
MC Alger started the game on high intensity piling pressure to Belouizdad, but Belouizdad hit Alger on the counter attack, as Farid El Melali scored the opening goal for Ramovic’s side to make it 1-0 in the 17th minute.
Six minutes later, Mokwena’s side responded through Soufiane Bayazid to make it 1-1. The Algerian international scored his fourth goal of the season in all competitions but Belouizdad finished the first-half in control of the game and dictated the tempo.
The current Ligue 1 leaders looked more reserved in the second half, but CRB didn’t show much enthusiasm either. After the hour mark the score remained 1-1 with half chances created.
With nine minutes before final whistle, Guinea international Alhassane Bangoura put MC Alger in front for the first time in this game.
The win for Alger moves them to 25 points after just nine games (eight wins and one draw). They are now four points clear of second-placed Olympique Akbou with three games in hand and remain the only unbeaten side in Ligue 1. Meanwhile, Belouizdad are only in 10th, with just 14 points from 10 matches.
