SA Coach Wins Historic League Title

Free State-born coach Morena Ramoreboli has won the Botswana Premier League title with Jwaneng Galaxy F.C. on Wednesday, which was the first club title of his coaching career.

Ramoreboli and Galaxy won the league title with one game to spare after beating Holy Ghost 2-0 on Wednesday, which also secured them a return to the CAF Champions League.

The victory saw them stay ahead of defending champions Gaborone United, who beat BDF XI 1-0. But it wasn’t enough to catch the South African tactician and his team, who sit five points ahead of second place after the penultimate round of games.

The 42-year-old coach rose to prominence in South Africa with Maluit FET College in the Nedbank Nedbank Cup a decade ago.

He joined Jwaneng in September 2021 after leading Bafana Bafana to the COSAFA Cup as caretaker coach and has been making massive strides since.

He led them to their maiden CAF Champions League group stage qualification in 2021, which resulted in their league form suffering a little, as they finished in third place last campaign.

However, they went unbeaten through the first half of the campaign and only lost two games in 2022/23 to secure the club’s second Botswana Premier League title after 2019/20.

But Ramoreboli is not the only South African behind the title-winning campaign, as former Bloemfontein Celtic analyst Lebo Kholoane also works for the club.
