Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Siphiwe Tshabalala featured in a thrilling legends game on Saturday between the FIFA Legends and Mexican Legends, ending 5-5 before the Mexicans prevailed in a penalty shootout.
Shabba, who famously scored the opening goal of 2010 against Mexico, was the only South African involved.
Unfortunately, Tshabalala did not get on the scoresheet, instead it was former Brazil and Real Madrid star Cafu who stole the show for the international side, scoring twice and providing an assist for Allesandro Del Piero.
Other notable players included Xavi, Clarence Seedorf, Rene Higuita and Christian Vieri for the FIFA side, and Luis Hernández and Marco Fabián for the Mexico side.
Fans in Monterrey were entertained throughout the ten goal thriller, with Mexico’s goalkeeper, Moisés Muñoz, eventually being the hero of the night in the penalty shootout.
The ‘Game of Legends’ match was played as part of the build-up to the FIFA World Cup later this year.
