Bafana Bafana winger Percy Tau has won his seventh trophy in just two-and-a-half years at Al Ahly.
Tau, 29, was earlier on Thursday named in Hugo Broos’ final Bafana squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
He can look back at a stellar year 2023 during which he won the CAF Champions League, the Egyptian Premier League and finished third at the FIFA Club World Cup.
His fine exploits also saw him being named the CAF Interclub Player of the Year, but Tau and Al Ahly capped off the year in fine style.
On Thursday evening, Al Ahly beat Future to the Egyptian Super Cup despite making it harder for themselves than expected. Al Ahly were leading 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals by Kahraba and Hussein El Shahat, but conceded two goals in quick succession before the final whistle.
They did though get back onto winning ways when Anthony Modeste scored in the 114th minute of extra-time before Karim Fouad put the tie to bed two minutes later.
It is Tau’s third Egyptian Super Cup title and his seventh trophy overall since joining Al Ahly. He’s also won one Egyptian Premier League, one Egyptian Cup, one CAF Super Cup and one CAF Champions League.
