Percy Tau has won his second bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup, becoming only the second South African behind Pitso Mosimane to do so.
Tau, 29, scored in his side’s 4-2 win over Urawa Red Diamonds, which marked his third goal in Club World Cup history.
The Bafana Bafana winger helped Al Ahly to claim their fourth bronze medal in history – they’ve won two of them under Mosimane, in 2020 and 2021, with Tau being injured but in the squad in 2021.
He was also at the tournament in 2022, when Al Ahly finished fourth behind Flamengo under Marcel Koller.
Tau’s exploits at the 2023 tournament under Koller resulted in him picking up a second bronze medal, flying the South African flight once more.
Overall, it was Tau’s fourth FIFA Club World Cup after he also took part in the tournament with Mamelodi Sundowns back in 2016, when scored his side’s only goal in their two defeats to Kashima Antlers and Jeonbuk Hyundai.
