Antonio van Wyk, Gift Links and Rushine De Reuck rattled the back of the net as Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Puso Dithejane made their first appearances in the Major League Soccer (MLS).
Van Wyk netted a goal in the Austrian Bundesliga for his side, SV Ried, opening the scoring in the match against WSG Tirol. However, Ried eventually shared the spoils with Tirol, with the opponents equalising towards the end of the match.
This was the second goal on the trot for the 23-year-old, after he scored again in the match against LASK. Meanwhile, van Wyk’s countryman Yusuf Maart also featured for 90 minutes.
In Denmark, Links scored for AGF Aarhus in their 5-2 triumph over Viborg in a Superliga match.
De Reuck also netted the second goal for Simba SC in their away 2-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons in the Tanzanian league.
In MLS, Mbokazi delivered an impressive display in his first match for Chicago Fire FC, as they lost 2–1 to Houston Dynamo FC. Meanwhile, his South African teammate Dithejane came on for him in the 88th minute as Chicago searched for an equaliser.
Elsewhere, Bongokuhle Hlongwane and Olwethu Makhanya also started for Minnesota United FC and Philadelphia Union, respectively, with Hlongwane’s Minnesota drawing 2-2 with Austin, while Makhanya’s side lost 1-0 to DC United.
In the Premier League, Lyle Foster was not part of the squad that played against Chelsea FC, as they drew 1–1.
In Germany, Ime Okon played the full match as Hannover 96 drew 0–0 with SG Dynamo Dresden. Shandre Campbell was an unused substitute as Club Brugge KV beat Oud-Heverlee Leuven 2–1 in the Belgian Pro League.
In Cyprus, Thapelo Maseko scored his second goal in a row as AEL Limassol won 2–0 against Enosis Neon Paralimni, with his South African teammate Luther Singh also featuring in that match.
In Portugal, Sphephelo Sithole played 24 minutes for C.D. Tondela, who beat C.F. Estrela da Amadora 2–0 in the league, and in Saudi Arabia, Elias Mokwana played 24 minutes as his side, Al-Hazem F.C., lost 4–0 to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr FC.
