Downs Ladies Extend Lead At The Top, UWC Win Again

Hollywoodbets Super League leaders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and UWC both picked up vital wins in their respective ties this past weekend.

The newly crowned CAF WCL COSAFA Qualifiers champions saw off First Touch Academy 2-0 away from home through Bongeka Gamede and Nondumiso Manengela to see the Blues maintain second spot with 47 points. They trail Sundowns Ladies by 12 points, with the former still having three games in hand. The Limpopo side remained in eighth spot with 33 points from 22 matches.

Meanwhile, Andisiwe Mgcoyi’s solitary strike was enough to see defending champions Sundowns narrowly beat TS Galaxy Queens 1-0 in Tshwane with 59 points from 22 outings, while the Mpumalanga-based outfit remained in fifth place with 37 points from 20 games.

Elsewhere, JVW and University of Johannesburg (UJ) could not be separated as they shared spoils in 1-1 draw in Soweto. Tanna Hollis scored a long-range loop over the opposition goalkeeper to put the Blue Diamonds in the lead, however Shannon Macomo cancelled that out from the penalty spot to salvage a point for her side. The sides remained in fourth and third places on the standings with 42 and 44 points, respectively, both from 22 matches.

Other results:

  • University Fort Hare 3-2 University of Pretoria
  • Lindelani Ladies 0-3 TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies
  • Durban Ladies 1-1 Copperbelt Ladies
  • Richmond United 4-1 Thunderbirds Ladies
  • Royal AM 3-0 City Lads
