Basia Michaels, the agent representing Orlando Pirates’ departing defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, has shared what they aim to accomplish through this transfer.
Mbokazi was announced by the MLS side this week following his move on a four-year contract, plus an option, in a transfer believed to be valued at $3 million (R53 million).
He is set to link up with Chicago once the Africa Cup of Nations, taking place in Morocco from December to January, has finished.
Michaels says this move shouldn’t be seen as Mbokazi’s “end of the road.” Rather, she views it as a “stepping stone” for a defender who still harbours big dreams and aims to advance even further in his career.
“He’s a strong boy, has a very strong personality, he’s not someone that lets anything shakes him,” said Michaels on UKhozi FM.
“This is as stepping stone transaction for us, it’s not the end of the road type of deal. We were mindful of decisions we made, leading up to this.
“We are also mindful of what we’re trying to achieve from this type of transaction. . We have taken the decisions, knowing that it could open opportunities.
“Even before AFCON, we cautious of the decisions and were purposeful on the decisions we made and on what we’re trying to achieve.
“We need to be mindful of the opportunities that lie ahead for him and the timing of taking these transactions, we make sure that we can achieve the outcomes we want to achieve.”
