Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker confirmed the exit of Sihle Nduli, with the midfielder expected to join Orlando Pirates.
Earlier this month, this publication reported that Nduli is leaving Stellenbosch FC on a free transfer to join the Buccaneers.
The former TS Galaxy midfielder has been one of the pillars for Stellies this season, winning the Carling Knockout Cup and scoring the winning goal in the CAF Conderation Cup quarter-final against Zamalek in Cairo.
After the final league game, where Stellies secured another CAFCC campaign, Barker praised Nduli for his professionalism and wished him good luck on his new journey.
“At this stage theres a couple of players that we won’t be renewing contracts and the one that is leaving is Sihle Nduli,” Barker said.
“Personally, I want to thank him for the person, and the player and the commitment that he showed at this club and we’re happy for him that he is moving on.
“So that is the one that we are aware of otherwise the rest we’re just looking at the positions, we’re looking at the position we can strengthen.”
Nduli captained Stellies in his final game, carrying the armband for the first time, with Barker saying it a the way of honouring him after serving the club very well.
“Yes, he is a silent leader, he doesn’t talk much, he plays and leads by his actions on the field,” Barker told iDiski Times.
“So we thought today it would be a nice touch to send him off as captain of the team. I reminded people that he sat many games on the bench for OX Mthethwa, but when OX left, he got his opportunity, and he took it with both hands.
“He served the club really well.”
