Bay Make 10th Signing Ahead Of New Season

Richards Bay have signed Tanzanian international defender Abdi Banda, who was previously on the books of Chippa United.

Bay were looking for a strong defender to come in immediately, as they were short of numbers at the back following the departure of Ntsikelelo Nyauza at the end of last season.

Club coach Kaitano Tembo spoke about the need of being defensively sound, especially since they are playing against SuperSport United in their first game of the season at Lucas Moripe Stadium this coming weekend.

Hunt is known to play “percentage football”, relying on strong deliveries from set-plays, which needs someone to repel them.

Banda, who has played for Baroka FC and Highlands Park respectively, will become the second defender signed by Bay following the acquisition of Thabani Dube from Kaizer Chiefs.

The Tanzanian international will be remembered at Chippa for scoring the winner when the Chilli Boys beat Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium in August last year.

It was only the win for coach Daine Klate before he was removed by the Chippa’s management and replaced by Morgan Mammila.

Banda is the 10th signing of Bay following the arrival of Letsie Koapeng, Lucky Mohomi, Sinethemba Mngomezulu, Justice Figuareido, Boikanyo Komane, Nkululeko Miya, Thato Mohlamme and Bandile Ndlovu.

Meanwhile, former Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane is still being assessed by the Natal Rich Boyz, and was part of Bay side that featured in the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup on Saturday.
