Benni Man Utd Future Decided – Report

Benni McCarthy is set to leave his role at Manchester United upon the expiry of his contract, as the Premier League side reshuffle Erik ten Hag’s technical team.

McCarthy first joined United, the team he supported growing up, in July 2022, after impressing the then-newly-appointed Ten Hag.

The former Cape Town City and AmaZulu head coach was brought in to work on the team’s strikeforce, and his impact was hailed by players and staff alike.

During McCarthy’s time with the Red Devils, the club won two trophies and reached three finals. In 2022/23 United won the EFL Cup, and after ending up as runners-up in the FA Cup that season, they won it in the 2023/24 campaign.

After finishing third in the Premier League in 2022/23, it was a disappointing eighth this past campaign, which led to rumours that Ten Hag may be replaced.

When United’s management opted to continue with Ten Hag, it was first reported that one of his requests was for McCarthy’s contract to be renewed.

However, it now seems that McCarthy will leave, while United are in advanced with former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, and current Go Ahead Eagles head coach Rene Hake to be added to the club’s backroom staff.

On Thursday, The Athletic report that the South African coach will depart the Premier League side.

“Benni McCarthy will leave his position as a first-team coach when his two-year contract expires at the end of this month. It’s understood that he wants to be a manager again,” reports Andy Mitten.
