Chiefs ‘Agree Deal’ For Ex-Downs Player

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City “have agreed to a deal” with Kaizer Chiefs for Keletso Makgalwa’s move but he will only join Amakhosi at the beginning of the 2024/25 season.

Makgalwa had a promising start to his career under the leadership of Pitso Mosimane at Sundowns, which saw him win three league titles and the Telkom Knockout.

But things didn’t work at Downs for the 27-year-old, and at the beginning of the 2021/22 season, he ended up being loaned out to Moroka Swallows where he spent the whole campaign.

The following season he was loaned out to TS Galaxy but again struggled for game-time and had to return to Sundowns five months later. He was later sent to All Stars FC for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

Downs released him at the beginning of the 2023/24 season where he went to join Upington City in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as a free agent.

And that’s where the three-time league winner hit the ground running at Bafana Ba Gucci, helping the new second tier side to keep their hopes of winning promotion alive by netting four goals and collecting three assists in 10 games.

Information received from a reliable source confirmed that City agreed to let Makgalwa join Chiefs, but not in the January window and only when the current season finishes.

Bafana Ba Gucci could not let Makgalwa join Chiefs this month, as they are competing for promotion in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, sitting fourth place three points behind table toppers Orbit College.
