Chiefs Sign Pirates Defender

Left-back Bongani Sam will get a chance to revive his once-promising career, after agreeing on terms with Kaizer Chiefs.

Sam, who turns 27 at the end of the month, has been on the books of Orlando Pirates for the last five years, and while he did play 29 games in all competitions for the Buccaneers, he spent much of the past three seasons out on loan, first at Maritzburg United then more recently Moroka Swallows.

Sam first came to the fore after moving from Highlands Park to Bloemfontein Celtic and after an excellent 2018/19 campaign, earned a transfer to the Buccaneers.

Now with the exit of S’fiso Hlanti at the Amakhosi, Sam will have the opportunity to revive his once-promising career in Nasreddine Nabi’s new Chiefs setup.

A source has confirmed to iDiski Times that Sam’s deal has now been completed, and he will join the Glamour Boys for the European camp in Turkey.

The club have opted for Sam despite being in advanced negotiations for Petro de Luanda left-wing back Anderson Cruz, as reported in our digital newspaper.

Cameroon international Joseph Ngwem was also among the names discussed, but at 32, the move for the Future FC defender was not seen as viable for the club.

Chiefs are set to leave for the camp on Friday, where they will meet their new coach for the first time after his exit from ASFAR in Morocco.
