CT City Suffer Blow Over Latest Signing

Cape Town City have suffered a blow over their signing of Namibian star Prins Tjiueza after he suffered a serious injury at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

City’s hopes of having Tjiueza for the rest of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign have hit a snag after the 21-year-old was injured in Namibia’s loss to Angola in the Last-16.

Tjiueza had been expected to join up with his new teammates after the AFCON, but it is now likely that he will only join Eric Tinkler’s team in the off-season as he will need to undergo surgery and will likely be out for a few months.

The winger was one of Namibia’s stars at the 2023 AFCON, helping The Brave Warriors to qualify for the knockout stages for the very first time.

The 21-year-old also helped Namibia to their first-ever win at the tournament when they beat Tunisia 1-0. Following a goalless draw with Mali in their final Group E match, Namibia booked their place into the Round of 16 where they were knocked out by Angola.

Tjiueza was playing in Kosovo for FK Liria, making 13 appearances in the league this season, scoring four goals and assisting on one occasion, before City announced his signing on Deadline Day, subject to completion of his documentation.

He was also linked with a transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns last season but no official move was made for the talented number 10.
