Davids Breaks Silence On Pirates Rumours

Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has clarified rumours linking him with a return to Orlando Pirates, saying the club hasn’t even contacted him and he still work to do in Tanzania.

Pirates are in search for a new coach after Jose Riveiro opted out of renewing his stay at the club following in impressive tenure.

The Spaniard also took charge of his last game as the Sea Robbers beat Golden Arrows 3-0 on Tuesday night, leaving ahead of schedule as he has already signed for another club.

The rumour mill has linked several coaches including Davids who is the side’s former assistant and co-head coach with the vacant position at Pirates.

Davids spoke to iDiski Times Digital Editor David Kappel in edition 204 of the newspaper where he poured cold water on the rumours.

“I think let’s just clear it up now,” Davids told IDiski Times.

“There’s been no contact from Pirates, definitely not. And like I said at the moment, no, there’s not really an intention to come back right now. Like I said, I still have a year left.

“Let’s finish the season and, like I said, try to fulfil the contract that’s left, and then we see what’s next after that.”

Meanwhile, Davids is enjoying a good run with Simba still competing in all fronts including the Tanzanian Premier League, the CRDB Bank Federation Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup.

The 43-year-old admitted they are ahead of their initial targets for the first season, however cautioned against counting chickens before eggs hatch.

“Yeah, I think the first season was to get back into the Champions League, to build this squad, because the profile of players we signed was 18 to 24,” added Davids.

“So in the first season, [we wanted to] adapt to the league, adapt to CAF, and the second season was the season where we were going to challenge. So we take a game at a time.

“But quite a hectic schedule upcoming, and they’ve just revised our fixture now going on till the 27th of June with the CRDB Cup final.

“If all goes well, and you don’t count your chickens before, but it could be again a Yanga-Simba final, because Yanga is playing JKT in the other semi-final.”
