Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has admitted that he feels in some instances the Soweto giants are quoted bigger transfer fees because of their name and status.
Amakhosi have been quite active in the transfer market once more, bringing in six new faces so far, but they’ve also missed out on the likes of Khanyisa Mayo and Elias Mokwena, despite submitting offers as Kaizer Jr. confirmed.
They were also keen on Asanele Velebayi, but couldn’t agree on Cape Town Spurs’ valuation of the player – at least so far. Several Amakhosi fans believe Chiefs are being quoted higher fees than other clubs, with the club’s Sporting Director it has been the case in some instances.
“To be fair, it is the case,” he replied to Thabiso Mosia when asked about the topic on Radio2000.
“There are certain instances where it’s market-related, certain instances where we’ve dealt very well with some clubs who’ve been very realistic.
“At the end of the day, it’s give and take. Everyone has to place a value on what they think a product is worth, if I can put it that. It’s just business, I guess.
“It’s for us, navigating the best way we can, forming good relationships – we also want to have good relationships with all the PSL teams, not just pay for things.
“Clubs in general because in football everyone needs each other and our goal is always to enhance the game, whether it’s our opponents or ourselves, we want a strong league, we want a strong product for the PSL. It’s very important for the economy of this country.
“But there are instances where of course they wouldn’t want to strengthen Kaizer Chiefs, it’s just like that some times.
“That’s why we made the decision to bring in Tera into our recruitment department because recruitment is key. I’ve highlighted before how important recruitment is and I think we’re stepping into the right direction.”
