Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo believes a move to SV Ried would be good for Yusuf Maart, but also admitted losing their captain will affect Amakhosi.
Maart, 29, looks poised for a move to Austria where he could link up with former Stellenbosch FC winger Antonio Van Wyk and assistant coach Moritz Kossmann, as first called by SABC Sport.
The public broadcaster reported on Monday that a club-to-club agreement had been reached, but Ried CEO told Austrian media that nothing is final yet.
“Yes, there is interest from our side in Yusuf Maart, but nothing is finalised,” he told OONachrichten.
But with seemingly only final steps to be agreed on, Khumalo discussed Maart’s potential exit from Naturena.
“Let me congratulate Yusuf because that’s a very lucrative one,” he said on Soccerzone.
“As a player, you need to have ambitions to play outside the country. I think it’s going to be a different Kaizer Chiefs because Maart played 90% if not 98% of the games for Kaizer Chiefs.
“Who will forget the very crucial goal he’s scored in the Nedbank Cup [final] and I think everything was probably centred around him because also he was carrying the armband.
“But then again there is nothing no one can do about it if he needs to go, it’s okay, let it be. But Chiefs are going to look so different, wait for it…”
Maart has made 95 appearances for Chiefs, scoring seven goals and setting up eight more since joining the club from Sekhukhune United in 2022.
