Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has questioned whether it was the right call to offload Edmilson Dove and Mduduzi Mdantsane.
The club opted to part ways with both players, with Dove’s contract expiring, while they agreed to a mutual termination of Mdantsane’s deal.
While the latter had been on loan at Richards Bay this past season, but only made three appearances, Dove featured quite regularly after his return from injury.
However, with the Mozambican taking up one foreign spot, Amakhosi opted to part ways – a decision Doctor has questioned, while he also scratched his head over Mdantsane’s exit.
“Obvious ahead of the season a decision has to be made, certain players will be given contracts, certain players will be offloaded,” he said on Soccerzone.
“It’s so unfortunate that Mdu is part of that and Dove. Having met with Dove at some places, he was starting to find his ground to say ‘Oh, this is Kaizer Chiefs, now I have to up my game’. But unfortunately, it was too late for him.
“He was stabilising the left-hand side, as in the left-back, which is his position not the left central defender. The unfortunate part, obviously the coach and technical team decided otherwise but I strongly…
“I think it’s something could’ve done with Mduduzi. I’m not sure whether it has to do with the game or off-the-field things, whatever decision has been made. I’ve never experienced it, I don’t know…”
Overall, Chiefs have already parted with five players, after Sabelo Radebe and Ranga Chivaviro were also told their contracts will not be extended, while Njabulo Blom returned to his MLS club after the expiry of his loan.
