Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has revealed his talk with Oswin Appollis over interest from Kaizer Chiefs.
Appollis, 23, has seen his star rise over the last season and he’s taken his chance at Bafana to cement a place in Hugo Broos’ starting XI, helping the team to qualify for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

At the beginning of 2024/25, Chiefs were among the clubs interested in the speedy winger, but talks with Polokwane chairman turned out difficult.
After Bafana’s last game of 2024, a 3-0 win over South Sudan where Appollis was named Man of the Match, Khumalo was seen chatting to the winger and the Amakhosi legend now revealed he asked him why he didn’t join Chiefs.
“After one Bafana Bafana game I think it was in Cape Town, Appollis was Man of the Match and I handed over the cheque,” Khumalo said on Soccerzone.
“I called him to the side I wanted to know what’s really blocking him from joining Chiefs. He said ‘it’s not me coach, it’s not me legend. I don’t know why am I not able to join Chiefs’.
“And I asked him ‘What do you want” and he said ‘I want to grow’. Grow how because growth can be in different ways.
“So I asked if he wanted to grow in terms of football or what, he said ‘yes, maybe something that can be challenging’.
“Not taking anything away from Polokwane City but this is a player that at least I did hear what he had to say and I think he would be a good acquisition for Kaizer Chiefs.
