Downs Eying New Technical Team Addition

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to rope in South Africa U17 Goalkeeper Coach Shu-Aib Walters after the exit of Marcus Mashilo.

Walters is well-known in the Premier Soccer League as he played the whole of his career on home soil, with his professional playing days spanning from 2005 until 2019.

The former Maritzburg United goalkeeper was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that participated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup which was hosted by South Africa.

The 42-year-old holds a CAF B Coaching Licence, which he completed in 2023. He is currently the South Africa U17 Goalkeeper Coach and founder of the Shu-Aib Walters Goalkeeper Academy.

Information received by this publication states that Walters is on the verge of joining Sundowns following the exit of Mashilo, who has joined Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Should Walters be appointed, he will work at youth and Gauteng Development League level and closely work with Wendell Robinson, who is leading the structure of the Goalkeeping Department at the club.

During his playing days, Walters played for Vasco Da Gama, Bloemfontein Celtic, Maritzburg United, Cape Town City and Ajax Cape Town (Cape Town Spurs), winning the Telkom Knockout Cup with the Citizens in 2016/17.
