Former Bafana Bafana defender Pierre Issa has been appointed as part of the technical staff of Italian outfit Sanremese Calcio.
The 50-year-old former SA centre-back has been roped in alongside France legend Christian Karembeu who won the 1998 World Cup with France and two UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid. Issa will work as Sporting Advisor to the team.

Issa was born in Germiston and moved to France at the tender age of just 11. Despite only being remembered by many for a performance at the beginning of his career, during Bafana’s disastrous 1998 World Cup campaign, the former Marseille and Chelsea player went on to feature 47 times for South Africa, playing his final game in 2006, before going on to work as a football director for several clubs, including Greek football giants Olympiacos.
