Kaizer Jr Gives Latest Khune Update

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has given the latest update on legendary Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, who the club would like to involve in a non-playing capacity.

Khune was not part of Chiefs’ traveling squad to Turkiye and is currently a free agent after his final contract with Amakhosi ran out.

The club did state ahead of 2023/24 that it would be his last campaign as a player, but they would like to keep him involved in another role.

Khune himself, though, seems keen on continuing his illustrious career on the pitch and he has kept fit on his own throughout the current off-season, however, a new move hasn’t materialised as yet.

Kaizer Motaung Jr. explained that the club are keen to involve Khune in a new role around the first team or junior ranks and will get more clarity around the future of the legend in the coming weeks.

“I think as time goes on, we’ll be able to divulge more information I think from the start of the season,” he said during the launch of Chiefs’ new kits.

“We sat down and spoke, I think he released a statement, as far as it came to his playing contract.

“We assessed everything and we’ve sat down with Itu and we seem him playing a very, very valuable role within this institution.

“I mean, he has contributed tremendously to this institution. He’s a living legend. I think has a lot to offer, whether it’s academy players, senior players in various roles.

“So I think as time goes on, we will able to divulge the next steps with Itu. But he’s very much a very important part of this family, this organization and this team.

“So I think as the weeks unfold, we’ll be able to release some more information on the direction.

“But yeah, I mean, a person that has achieved and been at one club like he has, I think he’s within the fabric of the cloth and everything.

“So I think we are privileged to have someone like him around this team, especially at this important time. And I think as time goes on, like I said, we’ll be able to the next steps.”
