Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye and his iDiski TV colleague Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi believe Amkhosi should consider signing Kermit Erasmus.
This is following the striker’s departure from Orlando Pirates with both analysts saying he is a good candidate for Kaizer Chiefs.
Erasmus, 33, was among six players released by Pirates last week. In his second stint with the Buccaneers Erasmus played 36 matches, scored five goals and had as many assists and won four trophies.
With not much known about the striker’s future the ex-Amakhosi man Khanye says Erasmus would give Chiefs goals given support, while cautioning that the 33-year-old not be judged by his age.
“I’d love to see him signing for Kaizer Chiefs,” Khanye said. on iDiski TV.
“I do believe Kaizer Chiefs can offer something. But Chiefs might not want to because they might look at his age because in South Africa, once you are 34, 35, they label you that you can’t play anymore.
“I don’t understand where this comes from because there are top players who are still playing for their countries at 36, 37 and they are still scoring.
“Ronaldo scored two goals now for Portugal. He is 38 turning 39, the same age as me, but he is still wearing the armband for Portugal and scoring.
“So why not Kermit at the age of 34 [33]? For me he is still good enough to play for Kaizer Chiefs. I think Chiefs should sign him as well.”
Meanwhile former Pirates captain Vilakazi shares the same sentiments with Khanye, adding that Chiefs needs someone of Erasmus’ calibre to provide leadership.
“I think a team like Kaizer Chiefs they need players like him that can come in and be leaders because when you look at Chiefs they lack leadership in that team,” Tso added
“So I think Chiefs can get Kermit Erasmus and allow him to play, give him support. I know there will be questions that you can’t ask for this much, while you were not playing but that will be a debate between him and the team.
“But I can advise him to consider a pay cut if needs be, while putting targets and deadlines to be able to earn a full salary.”
