Khanye on Appollis’ Move To Pirates

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye says Oswin Appollis is a good signing for Orlando Pirates even though he doesn’t believe the winger will be a regular starter.

Appollis was announced as the ninth signing for the Buccaneers ahead of next season from Polokwane City where he was impactful helping the Limpopo side finish inside the top eight for the past two seasons. Appollis had been a subject of conversation even in the previous window with links to both Pirates and neighbours Kaizer Chiefs.

Khanye says he is impressed with how the 23-year-old fought for his career after a rocky start in his early development years going all the way to being a key member of the national senior men’s side.

“A very good signing for Orlando Pirates,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“Well done to the guy for restoring himself after being released by SuperSport’s development side. By restoring I mean the guy started afresh again, was psychologically strong and even relocated from Cape Town to Polokwane. That can’t be easy and without your parents without your family to start afresh.

“The guy has done well for himself and even getting into the Bafana Bafana squad, scoring crucial goals for Bafana in World Cup qualifying games and being a regular in Hugo Broos’ Bafana-Bafana team. So well done I need to be honest.

“But when I say good signing, I’m not saying he is going to start at Orlando Pirates.”
