Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thembinkosi Lorch is back in South Africa and seems unlikely to secure a permanent move to Wydad Athletic Club after his loan expired with the Botola Pro giants.
Lorch, 32, returned to SA after seven months with the Moroccan giants after initially being lured there by then-head coach Rulani Mokwena, who also signed him for Mamelodi Sundowns.
Due to Mokwena’s exit, he fell out of favour at Sundowns, and the mid-season move to Wydad was met with excitement as the player looked to get back to the form that made him a household name in Mzansi.
He emerged as one of the leading players at the Red Castle, making 17 appearances, scoring three goals and was arguably their best player at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
While reports in the North African state suggested a permanent deal was close to being agreed, iDiski Times has been informed that WAC want the player without a transfer fee, which Sundowns are not willing to entertain after his impressive displays.
Sources within the squad confirmed he was not part of their pre-season preparations at Royal Marang in Rustenberg, despite being informed he needs to return to the club for training, until a move materialises, with the player keen for a fresh new start.
Meanwhile, has shared videos of him working out with former Wydad AC colleague Cassius Mailula on his social channels.
Lorch scored seven goals and registered four assists in 26 games for Sundowns during his solitary season at the club, after his high-profile transfer from Orlando Pirates, but it’s now very unlikely to ever see him don the colours of the Brazilians again.
