Former Chippa United coach Kurt Lentjies has taken charge of AmaZulu‘s DStv Diski Challenge team, the club announced.
Lentjies had been unattached after he, along with then-assistant coach Thabo Mngomeni, were sacked by FC Ravens in February last year despite the team being at the summit of the table.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker has also previously mentored the Chippa first team and the DDC before he led their feeder team Peacemakers, who play in the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League.
Lentjies comes in following the exit of Mncedisi Sibiya, who had been in charge of the Usuthu reserve team since joining in October 2024. The 40-year-old will be joined by Mngomeni, who was assisting him at Ravens, as previously reported by this website.
“AmaZulu FC’s Reserve Team have kicked off their 2026 calendar with four key technical appointments, headlined by the arrival of DDC Head Coach Kurt Lentjies and his assistant Thabo Mngomeni,” the club stated.
“The duo is joined by Thami Gwala as Goalkeeper Coach and Diana Masaire as Performance Analyst, completing a reinforced technical team tasked with guiding Usuthu’s Diski Challenge squad forward.”
Usuthu currently sit seventh in the league standings with 17 points accumulated from 12 matches.
In addition, Usuthu have also announced the reappointment of former club scout Ayanda Mkhize.
“AmaZulu Football Club have reappointed former club scout Ayanda Mkhize in a move aimed at revitalising the club’s recruitment department at both youth and first-team level,” the club added.
“Mkhize, who last served in the role in 2023, will work closely with Director of Football Pedro Dias as part of a renewed drive to reshape Usuthu’s talent identification strategy and strengthen the KwaZulu-Natal outfit’s pathway towards becoming a powerhouse in player recruitment.”
