Mayambela Opens Up On Chiefs Talks

Bafana Bafana winger Mihlali Mayambela has confirmed that he had talks with Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director and he would be keen to join Amakhosi, but the question is when.

Mayambela, 28, is currently on the books of Aris Limassol in Cyprus. He has helped the club to win their first ever league title in 2022/23 as well as the Cypriot Super Cup, featuring in 103 games overall.

The Old Mutual product spent some time in his youth at both Chiefs and Orlando Pirates before making his senior debut at Cape Town All Stars, and eventually moving to Europe.

However, there have been rumours that Chiefs were keen on bringing him back to South Africa, and Mayambela now confirmed that he had talks with Kaizer Motaung Jr.

“There was a conversation,” he told SoccerBeat.

“You know the club is moving in a different direction, you can see the amount of signings they’ve made now.

“So, they are busy trying to put a strong team, but also I’m in a place where I don’t need to move if I don’t have to.

“I’m here, playing every game, I have a big role in my team to play. I’m being respected here.

“But there is an interest from Chiefs and there was talks between me and the Sporting Director. He’s doing his job; he’s trying to build a good squad to bring back the glory days.

“Being at Chiefs is my, maybe this guys’ dream [points to Mark Mayambela]. I don’t know if it will happen, [or rather] will it happen? Maybe I can say yes more than a no – but I don’t know when, it doesn’t only depend on me.

“Because also where I am at now, I’ve always said they really need me and I need them also, it’s a matter of making things happen.

“But there was interest.”
