Middendorp – Why We Didn’t Sign Erasmus

Cape Town Spurs head coach Ernst Middendorp has confirmed that former Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus is no longer training with the club.

Erasmus, 34, left Orlando Pirates at the end of last season when his contract expired after two campaigns with the Buccaneers and winning two MTN8 trophies and a Nedbank Cup trophy.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward has been free agent after a move to Cape Town City didn’t materialise.

This publication reported that Erasmus was training with Spurs but had left after a week after both camps couldn’t agree on a new contract.

Speaking with Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000, Middendorp explained what really happened between the Urban Warriors and the former SuperSport United striker.

“He was here for some days but everybody has to understand he is a PSL player and I could see still he has a clear target, a clear direction,” Middendorp told Mosia on Radio2000.

“We allowed him to rain for a week [but] it was not really going to happen that he will be part of the team.

“I think you cannot have a rehabilitation centre or condition centre where somebody gets fit and runs away.

“We had it in the near past, we had Thato Mokeke last year starting with us in January and we could use him earliest as April and played a couple of friendlies before moving on.”
