Mokwena Gives Surprise Nasir Update

Ethiopian international striker Abubeker Nasir seems to be no longer regarded as a Mamelodi Sundowns player, according to head coach Rulani Mokwena.

The 24-year-old lanky forward joined the Brazilians in June 2022 from Ethiopian Coffee Addis Abeba in his native country, but failed to live up to expectations in a star-studded Sundowns outfit upon his arrival in South Africa, as injuries hampered his progress.

Nasir, who won the DStv Premiership title in his debut season at the Chloorkop outfit, appears to have followed Bongani Zungu out of the exit door, or is at least not registered by Sundowns currently with Mokwena cryptically stating “he is not a Sundowns player”.

“He’s not a [Mamelodi] Sundowns player, so I don’t want to talk about Abubeker Nassir because he’s not a Sundowns player,” Mokwena said on PowerFM987.

“He’s not registered as a Sundowns player. So I don’t talk about who are not Sundowns players.”

Nassir featured just 18 times, scoring four goals during his two-year stay at Sundowns.
