Official: Man Utd Announce Benni Decision

Manchester United have confirmed they have parted ways with Benni McCarthy, who worked for two years as striker’s coach at the club.

McCarthy first joined United, the team he supported growing up, in July 2022, after impressing the then-newly-appointed Ten Hag.

The former Cape Town City and AmaZulu head coach was brought in to work on the team’s strikeforce, and his impact was hailed by players and staff alike.

During McCarthy’s time with the Red Devils, the club won two trophies and reached three finals. In 2022/23 United won the EFL Cup, and after ending up as runners-up in the FA Cup that season, they won it in the 2023/24 campaign.

After finishing third in the Premier League in 2022/23, it was a disappointing eighth this past campaign, which led to some changes in Ten Hag’s technical team.

While McCarthy left, United did confirm the arrival of former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, and ex-Go Ahead Eagles head coach Rene Hake in the club’s backroom staff.

“Manchester United has appointed Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy as assistant managers of the men’s first team, to work under Erik ten Hag until June 2026,” the club stated on Thursday.

“Steve McClaren and Darren Fletcher remain key parts of the staff as senior first-team coach and first-team coach, respectively. Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy have left the club.”
