Manchester United have announced the signing of Mali youth international Sekou Kone who has joined from Guidars FC in his homeland, while Scott McTominay was sold to Napoli.
The 18-year-old is one of the few players directly signed from Africa by a top club, with United said to be excited for his future, even though he’ll initially join the club’s academy team.
“Manchester United have completed the signing of exciting young midfielder Sekou Kone,” the club stated.
“The Mali youth international has joined from Guidars FC in his homeland.
“Kone only turned 18 in February and will initially be supported by the Academy in order to give him time to settle into life in Manchester.
“He has put pen to paper in advance of the closure of the summer transfer window later this evening (Friday).”
Meanwhile, United academy product Scott McTominay has joined Napoli on a five-year contract for a reported fee of €30 million.
