Official: Rulani’s New Club Confirmed

Al Ittihad Tripoli have announced the appointment of Rulani Mokwena as their new head coach.

Mokwena had been linked with the Libyan clubs for several months, who have been long-term admirers of the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor.

And after the recent departure of Khaled Ben Yahia, the pursuit of his services intensified, leading to Mokwena’s departure from MC Alger.

Mokwena won the Algerian Super Cup and was leading the Algerian Ligue 1 comfortably but opted to join the new project in Tripoli, with the club confirming his arrival on Tuesday.

However, Mokwena’s arrival in Tripoli was delayed after he was detained at Houari Boumediene Airport on Sunday after being found with too much cash as the North African country has strict laws regarding taking currency out of the currency.

His case was quickly heard at the Dar El Beida Court, where he received his two-months suspended prison sentence.

He was then cleared to make his way to Tripoli, where he will be unveiled later in the week after agreeing to a two-year deal with an option to extend to lead the new ambitious project.
